Introduction

 Purpose: In this report, we will further examine how the usage of Management Information Systems contributes to Lululemon’s marketing strategy and business process. We will analyze the usage by conducting research and interviews with a Lululemon store manager who has insight on the information systems they use.  We plan to identify any areas Lululemon lacks in and to provide recommendations on how to improve through the use of Management Information Systems to enhance their competitive advantage and business strategy.

   Company Overview:   Lululemon was founded in 1998 by Chip Wilson in Vancouver, British Columbia. The store takes an in-person and online business model in order to ensure anyone can gain access to their various products. Lululemon sells athletic and leisure wear, from leggings to lifestyle wear, accessories, and even personal care. The company was created when the founder decided to take a yoga class and noticed that there were not many breathable and fashionable yoga outfits within these sites, which inspired him to create Lululemon.

Lululemon has over 720 stores all over the world, and as of 2024 there were around 370 in the U.S. The company has 38,000 employees globally (lululemon). This way, the company has been able to reach people pursuing an active and balanced lifestyle by offering athletic clothing that combines style, performance, and comfort. The company has become very successful due to its quality and technology, allowing its guests to find the perfect piece of clothing for each specific activity. Calvin McDonald became the CEO of the company in 2018 and has been working on transforming the brand making sure everyone feels welcome. Under McDonald’s leadership, lululemon has expanded its product lines and focused on making the brand more inclusive while continuing to grow its global presence.
